Years ago when someone described a bathroom cabinet, or a medicine cabinet, it usually meant the same thing. This referred to a little cabinet that was hanging in the bathroom to hold aspirins, liniments and other medicinal needs.

Almost every bathroom had some type of small wall mounted metal shelving unit fastened on the wall. The usual location for this narrow, white enamel contraption was on the wall above the bathroom sink. The door was also made of white enameled metal and usually had a mirror attached. These cabinets were strictly utilitarian and there was no thought given to making the product appealing in any aesthetic sense.
