Kitchen renovations are the best investment in your home. So, if you want to increase the value of your home, this is the best room to begin in. There are different things you can do to improve the room itself which will require a small investment, or you can gut the entire room and start from scratch.
Of course, gutting the room will give you a blank slate in which you can do everything you desire. Needless to say, renovating the kitchen in its entirety is a very costly undertaking. Thankfully, there are many things that you can do to improve your already existing room, costing you a fraction of the price. E.g. replace the doors and leave the existing cupboards in place. Refacing the cupboards will change the entire room’s appearance and look brand new. But, for some people, even that can be too costly. So, perhaps painting the existing cupboard doors and change the hardware.
Even this will freshen up the room and give it a whole new look. You can even go a step further and paint the backsplash as well. That’s right, you can paint the ceramic backsplash. All you need to do is sand the ceramics down so that they are dull, prime them and paint them a color of your choice.
Changing your counter top is also a great way to get a new look in your kitchen, as it takes up a lot of visual space. The best part is that a new counter is not as expensive as you may think. There are many different options too. In fact, if you are a little handy, perhaps you can go with a granite or marble tile counter top. This isn’t as difficult as it may sound, and the results are incredible. You get to have a high-end looking counter at a minimal cost.
Changes like those above are recommended to bring your room up to date. But, you can also change and upgrade your floor. A ceramic floor is always sought after in a room with so much traffic. Again, if you are handy, you can save a lot of money by doing it on your own. And, you may want to consider radiant heating for the ceramics. The luxury of heated floors is always comfortable.
Or, hardwood flooring is another option. Many homeowners are now installing hardwood floors instead of other traditional flooring options. It gives the room instant warmth and style. They are timeless, as well. As styles change, however, tiles can become dated.
The bottom line is that any updating you do to your kitchen, you will get most of the investment back, if not make a profit.
