PostHeaderIcon Is replacing the stub out under the bathroom sink a diy project?

When replacing the tailpiece to the p trap, the p trap disconnected from the crumbling stub out. Can I replace the stub out myself or is it something that needs a propane torch and flux?

If the stub-out crumbled, it’s probably iron
    pipe, (threaded joints).
You’d have to break into the wall not knowing just
what you’d find. There’s no guarantee the replacement
would be limited to the stub-out.
Not a DIY project unless you’re real familiar with
    plumbing and well equipped.
