I am in the process of a DIY Bathroom simple remodel. I have the standard bathtub and a fiberglass shower?

surround, looks like it is attached to the tub by a strip of silicone. I want to remove the shower surround and leave the tub, so I can use glass tile on the walls in place of the fiberglass shower surround. What steps do I take to remove this without damaging the wall? Will I need to replace sheetrock or special material before installing glass tiles? Thank you.
