PostHeaderIcon How to Choose Bathroom Theme Accessories

It is true to say that the majority of people look at their bathroom to be very little more than a room full of tile together with shiny fixtures and fittings. However, with a total rethink of how it could be, you could transform the space into something to be proud of. All that is necessary is a little  imagination on your part as to how you would like it to look and the accessories needed to bring that dream bathroom to fruition.

You need to decide on a theme for your bathroom as you would any other room in the house. Theming not only brings mood to the room but also your individual personality. Of course, there are literally hundreds of themes to choose from including sea life, country style, tropical beaches and Mediterranean villas. However, as a good rule of thumb, you should choose a theme that suits you and not one that somebody recommends. Ideally, go for a style that closely matches other deisgns around you house. By doing so, it will not be out of tune with the general theme of your home

If your bathroom is a little on the smallish side, you are not out of line with a lot of other householders since bathrooms in older houses were quite literally carved out of small unused closets. Even if you are one of the many unfortunate folks that have inherited a smaller bathroom, you can nevertheless decorate for color. Bear in mind though, that with small bathrooms, less is oftentimes more. Your color schema can be paint or paper, but if the space is small, a neutral paint or paper color can be used on either one wall, or as an accent on a chair rail. You can opt to paint a traditional white, and accent with color using several decorating accessories like framed photographic prints, shells, baskets, rug throws, and window treatments to name but a few.

Warm reddish shade of paint or wallpaper work really well with plants in the bathroom. However, choose plants that like steamy warm conditions, and that can stand the various chemical substances. Some plants simply cannot put up with the mousse, hairspray, and perfumes that are used on a regular basis in a bathroom. It will gum up the plants leaves and they will wind up in your trash can. If your bathroom is big enough, you can hang up plants from the ceiling, or position them on the back of the toilet. Large garden style bathtubs have sufficient space on the rim of the tub to place tiny plants, and together with bath soaps and baskets, they look lovely.

Rugs and towels play a vital part when accessorizing your newly decorated bathroom. For a feeling of sheer elegance, you will not go far wrong with hand woven or deep plush throw rugs. However, when buying the rugs, consider the type of bathroom floor covering you are putting them on since they can present a slipping risk when placed on a linoleum or tile floor. To prevent this, look for rugs that have either a non slip or rubber backing. Try coordinating your new rugs and toilet mat in either matching or alternating colors. When blended with a neutral background, assorted textures work well to give an inviting, comfy warm feeling to your bathroom.

Towel racks are another way to apply a little zing to your bathroom. Decorative racks with colorful towels make a bathroom stand out. You can get towel racks in assorted shades of wood, bronze, silver or gold. Some folks paint their own wooden racks, and match their baskets and picture frames with them.

Modern bathroom lighting is just as important as the decoration and accessories. As a matter of fact, light can make or break the mood of any room. Since water and electricity do not mix very well, your initial consideration must be safety. If you have children in the house, I would advise that all lighting should be fixed and inaccessible to little wet hands. That aside however, you can leave night lights on when the bathroom is not in use and if counter top space allows, a small lamp. You can then fit lamp shades that match your overall theme.

Finally, if you are stuck for ideas, read through some home decorating books or magazines for inspiration to get your imaginative juices flowing. You might well discover great themes that you did not even know existed. It is your little corner of the world, so be as unique as you want when dressing your home bathroom
