Are you thinking whether to get a garden shed? There are a few things to think about first. First off, wood or metal. The second thing is, do you purchase or build it yourself? You can learn from my mistakes, keep reading and find out the best option for you.
When I first made a decision to get a new garden shed I made the error of ordering a ‘build it yourself’ premade metal shed. It took me about a day to construct and I knew direct from the start it probably was not going to be the shed I wanted.
After I had built it I tried to persuade myself that it would do the job. The sliding metal doors made such a horrible noise when closing them and although I had bolted all of it down to the ground it did not feel terribly safe.
It was not until one or two days later I realized that some of my tools and appliances were wet. As I looked up at the roof I realized it was damp. Condensation; the entire roof was covered with condensation which didn’t vanish until late afternoon by which time as quickly as the sun had gone down it was already beginning to come back.
I tolerate it for a couple of months till I eventually made the choice to tug it down and get a wooden shed. The original reason I did not get a wooden shed was because of the cost. Metal sheds seem to be so much less expensive, I now know why.
Being an eager DIY person there wasn’t any way I was going to buy one. I invested a little bit of money and downloaded a whole load of plans from the internet. After choosing the right plans I took them to my local lumber yard where they gave me a quote from materials. It wasn’t far more than the first metal shed I had wasted my money on.
A couple of days later the shed was built and it’s now my pride and joy. All my tools are safe and dry and I have got a load of room to spare. The best thing is folk can’t believe that I made it myself. It’s great to show off my DIY skills!
To conclude, forget getting a metal shed. They are just a waste of money. Nothing trumps a good old-fashioned wooden shed and building it yourself is unquestionably the way to go.
It’s such a lot of fun and you get to show it off to all your neighbors and friends when you have completed it!
