Plan your Bathroom Floor and Decor Project Properly

Floor and decor projects can often be daunting. Likewise, planning and purchasing the necessary items can become a real stress for most. Luckily there are simpler ways to redo your bathroom flooring.

As with any floor and decor projects, remodeling your bathroom floor can take a lot of time and effort to plan correctly. The first part of any floor and decor plan will almost always require you to create a comprehensive bathroom floor and decor shopping list!

There are so many different kinds of bathroom flooring to choose from. You may decide to go for bathroom tiles, bamboo flooring, vinyl tiles or laminate flooring. Whatever you decide, here is some useful information on some of the different floor and decor options you may have.

Types of Bathroom Flooring for Your Floor and Decor Project

We look at a few of the following bathroom floor types in more detail below:

Laminate Flooring

Bathroom Laminate Flooring
Laminate flooring is often used for bathroom flooring as it is both cost effective and easy to maintain – thus helping keep your bathroom floor and decor spend to a minimum, yet not foregoing any quality at all.

Laminate flooring is essentially a mix between real wooden flooring (as it looks similar) and vinyl flooring (due to its composition). It is favored by many Americans over other types of bathroom flooring as it is really simple to install and lasts for a long time. It is also incredibly cheap (for what you are getting) compared to real wooden flooring and ceramic bathroom tiles. On the other hand, lots of people despise it as it is not real wood!

Laminate flooring usually comes flat-packed, containing either Snap-On or Glue-On fixtures. In general, the Snap-On option is usually easier and less messy to install as you do not have to apply any solvent to bind the pieces together. However, Glue-On fixtures generally survive moisture better and therefore are recommended for bathroom floor and decor projects over the Snap-Ons.

Bathroom Tiles

bathroom tilesTiling is a specialist task that most of us wouldn’t dare to attempt. There is however a growing number of us that long to install bathroom tiles in our next bathroom floor and decor renovation attempt. Tiles are advantageous as they are easy to clean and last forever (they’re made of stone after all). Unlike wooden flooring, laminate flooring or vinyl tiles; ceramic tiles do not fade – nor can they be stained.
The only downside is that you need a professional to install them. Furthermore, the tiles themselves are often more expensive per square foot than other type of flooring.
Plenty of bathrooms have tiled walls too! A newly designed bathroom floor and wall decor theme is often aesthetically pleasing and allows its occupants to enjoy their relaxation time that little bit more.

Hardwood & Engineered Wooden Flooring

There are several kinds of wooden or wooden compound flooring that can easily fit perfectly within your bathroom floor and decor project plan.
Hardwood flooring, as its name implies, is solid wood. It’s rather unfortunate as this kind of flooring looks great throughout your house but cannot be used in moist, damp areas such as a bathroom. Well…almost! Bamboo flooring can be applied to bathroom floors with no problem. It is really attractive and, as it originates from areas in the world with the most humid climates; it will fair well in moister areas – like your bathroom.

Engineered wooden flooring on the other hand is designed, as such, to weather well in moister areas, such as the bathroom. It is a great alternative to pure hardwood (such as pine, willow or oak) as it is designed to look the same, despite being made primarily of plywood and finish wood. Engineered flooring is often most associated with ‘floating floors’. This is generally used in installations of thicker flooring where they simply clip together to form the bathroom floor structure that is not attached to the bottom – hence the name “floating floor”.

Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl flooring comes in many forms – the most popular being sheet vinyl flooring and vinyl floor tiles. Vinyl tiles are really easy to fit and any person with a bit of time and patience is able to complete this kind of bathroom floor installation. On the other hand, the tend to peal back after time and often fade too.

The solution to this is sheet vinyl. Sheet vinyl is a little more expensive and often a bit more difficult to install. However, the benefits far outweigh the extra cost involved (compared to vinyl tiles) as they tend to last a lot longer and don’t react as badly to moisture.

Vinyl has long been hailed the most cost-effective flooring solution around and therefore is used most widely amongst people all over the world.
