Character Remodeling: Renovating Ourselves With The Help Of Others

Fixing things is a part of life. In Chicago or its vicinities a Naperville handyman might come and fix the back door, or repair the banister. Changing things is also a part of life. A Naperville bathroom remodeling could be the answer to increasing pleasure and home value. Consider personal improvement. What if someone wants to improve their character or develop themselves? In a world that takes pride in self-initiative, seeking assistance is often frowned upon.

Fixing one’s life, changing the way it looks, is not a simple and easy task for most people. The reason it tends to be a challenge is that most people spent a lifetime creating the problems they want to change. Often the problems are a result of lack of information, or habits that are so ingrained they are subconscious behaviors. Often habits or traditions exist without an understanding of why they are present.

A mother cuts a ham in half before she put it in the oven. Her daughter asked her why the ham gets cut in half. The mother says to her daughter that was what her mother did. So she asked her mother why they cut the ham in half. She scratched her head and said she really didn’t know, it was just what her mother did. So the first mother called and questioned her grandmother why she cut the ham in half. The answer provided a bit of humor and also a good deal of reflection. The grandmother simply explained that she didn’t have a pot big enough to cook a entire ham. Many folks have habits and ideas that exist that have lost their meaning or purpose. While tradition is often important and even comforting, some traditions have either lost their purpose or exist despite the detriment they cause to ones life.

Changing a pattern depends on uncovering what pattern needs breaking. There are many habits which are damaging to ones life, but not apparent. Even what may be obvious to an outsider might seem difficult for an individual to embrace. One of the most challenging components of change is admitting the need to do it. Many addicts and alcoholics loose most of what is important to them before admitting they have a problem. There are many less obvious behaviors that detract from the quality of our lives. It might be spending and saving habits, or how we spend our time. These may not destroy us, but they might well bring unneeded stress or misguided loyalties.

Preforming an honest inventory of the quality of ones life is a major first step. Looking at the choices, reviewing the commitments, and highlighting the goals often reveal unintended consequences. A lot of folks have taken jobs to better their circumstances only to discover that the stress, time commitment and increased earnings did not add to the quality of life. Once it is clear what areas need addressing, it is time to seek help. 99 percent of all challenges have been dealt with by others. There are many people happy to help, because others have helped them. Keep an ear open and be grateful there are people that can be a handyman for personal growth.
