This may mean supervising the dog at all times, but that can be difficult because kids may need to go to school and adults may need to work.
In some families, they choose to keep the dog in a crate when people are not spending time with the animal. Others create an indoor and outdoor space so the dog can care for itself when nobody is home. If you give a dog affection and freedom, it is sure to lead a long, happy life.
