If it turns out that you have an extra room in your home, turning it into a guest bedroom can be a great way to help your guests feel right at home. By keeping your guest bedroom simple yet adding in your personal stylistic touches here and there, you can create a room that will appeal to any guest who stays in your home. If you’re unsure as to how to decorate your guest bedroom, then follow these simple décor tips.
Keep the Colors Neutral
In a guest bedroom, you want to keep the colors neutral, although it is okay to add a pop of color here and there. By sticking to neutral colors, you can make the room more appealing to guests and also more comfortable for them. With a neutral base, then you can add style and a little bit of color with different décor items such as paintings, flowers, and pillows. You shouldn’t be afraid of having a stylish guest bedroom. On the other hand, by keeping it on the neutral side you don’t have to worry about red walls frightening your guests in the middle of the night.
Provide a Comfortable Sleeping Area
Some people choose to furnish the guest bedroom with their old furniture and arts & crafts bed. Do be sure that the bed is still safe and stable, though. It might not be a bad idea to buy a new mattress, however, as you want to be able to provide a comfortable sleeping area for your guest that probably doesn’t include your 20-year-old mattress. You can also easily stain or paint your old bed another color to match the décor of the room. Another option is to find an inexpensive and simple bed that will not break your budget.
Don’t buy the cheapest set of sheets you can find for the guest bedroom. Rather, try to find something in the middle, so that it will be comfortable but will still fit into your budget. You should be fine going with a basic cotton sheet set, along with a comforter or blanket. You might even inject some style and color into the room through the sheet set, although you want to be sure that it’s not too obnoxious.
Provide Storage Space
When guests stay in your guest bedroom, you want to provide them with some storage and closet space for their use. Therefore, if you typically use the bedroom’s closet for your own storage purposes, you might want to think about storing those items elsewhere for the time being. Naturally, this will depend on who the guest is and how long that guest is planning to stay. If you’re having a family member who’s only staying a day or two, then that may not matter. But if you’re hosting someone from out of town who is staying for a week or longer, you’ll want to provide them with ample storage space.
Decorating a guest bedroom can be a really fun process, but you do need to keep in mind that it’s other people who will be actually using the room. Thus, it’s always best to keep it on the simple side, adding your stylish touches here and there.
